Cancer Crusaders High Tea

I scheduled a blog about this for Fri but it appears to have gone to Cyberspace!

On the way back from the Dressmakers Costume Exhibition, we stopped off at friends' home in Sanctuary Lake. They were holding a High Tea for fifty people as a fundraiser for the Royal Childrens Hospital. Money raised was to fund a research trial into brain cancer in children. They hold this function twice year at their home. The menu included the following yummy food:
Savoury - Chicken Royale Sandwiches, Buckingham Palace Cucumber sandwiches, Bruschetta, Spanakopita.
Sweet - Scones with raspberry jam and cream, Mango mousse, Jelly slice, Lamington butterflies, Vanilla Cannoli, Mini red velvet cup cakes, Mini pavlova and melon skewers.
Cost $35 and a glass of bubbly is $5
I am aiming to get together a table of ten for their Christmas in Jul High Tea on Sunday 24th July at 2pm. Let me know if you are interested.

The Dressmakers Costume Exhibition

I am back in the work force two days week so stitching is taking a back seat at present!

Last Sunday I took a road trip with a girlfriend to the Dressmaker Costume Exhibition at Barwon Park Mansion in Winchelsea. What magnificent costumes and a selection of hats from the movie were on show. There were quite a lot of people present so a bit difficult to take photos. The DVD is out tomorrow, a bargain at $15 at Target and a must have. Loved the movie but think it will be more enjoyable now that I have seen the dresses. We stopped at the Winchelsea Tea Rooms and Café for lunch first - the old bluestone shire hall built in 1908. Can highly recommend the food there.

The Exhibition closes on 20th March but moves to Rippon Lea House and Gardens in Elsternwick from 22nd April for those who miss it.

 

 

Flowerville

Last year I was part of a group of great girls who met once a month at Patchwork with Gail B in Bayswater. Our much loved tutor Rosie Dekker (Quinlan) designed a 'Block of the Month' over nine months to put together into a quilt named Flowerville. Always exciting as we did not know what Rosie was going to turn up with. I chose a totally different colourway and have worked hard to get it to the stage it is at now...... because I have it booked in with Anita at Hillside Quilting for the end of March to have it quilted. Rosie was so helpful in selecting the fabrics for the borders.
The nine blocks are laid out ready for the stitcheries to be sewn onto the Dresden plates.
Most of us have not finished the quilt so we are still meeting once a month and if Rosie is well enough, she will come and stitch with us. Loved seeing her this week.

And you should all be so proud of me as my hubby has just shown me how to upload photos from my phone to the laptop and voila, I did the next step myself so maybe you may see me some more in Blogland!!!!!
